Let’s hand it to Number 12!
Mike Wainright, now celebrating a magnificent 10 year stint with Warrington Wolves (2017 being his testimonial year) has taken off his Number 12 shirt to support the “No need to shout, Learn To Sign” campaign.
He has supported the deaf community previously with public appearances at organised events in the Northwest. “I know how important it is to feel part of a team and to speak the same language – we have our terms and signs in rugby and we couldn’t play well without them! This campaign is worthwhile inpromoting a much-needed language to both Deaf and hearing people. I’m looking forward to learning a few signs myself!”, Mike explains. Thinking about his nickname “Wedge”, he wonders what his sign name will be!
During the campaign week, a primary school in the Northwest will be chosen to receive a visit from Mike. The school will be chosen for their commitment in bringing as many pupils as possible to take part in learning BSL as well as their fundraising efforts for the charity. Mike will visit the school on the Friday of the campaign to witness some of the pupils signing and to distribute certificates to some of the well-deserved pupils!
